Bill Designating Bridge For Fallen Soldier Becomes Law

Legislation designating the bridge in Hatboro Borough over Pennypack Creek as the Private First Class Joseph J. Lannon Jr., United States Marine Corps, Memorial Bridge was signed into law, Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia), prime sponsor of the measure, said today.

“Having the privilege and distinction of serving my country in combat, it was my honor to introduce this legislation to recognize the heroism and patriotism of one of America’s fallen heroes,” Murt said.

Lannon was killed in combat Oct. 1, 1968, in Vietnam.  A graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, he was 19 at the time of his death.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1967.

House Bill 2003 is now Act 26 of 2010.  The bill unanimously passed the House in January and the Senate in April, and was signed by the governor on May 12.
