Murt Receives a Doctorate in Educational Administration
HARRISBURG-- Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) today attended the Temple University graduation ceremony where he received his doctorate in educational administration.

“This is the end of a long journey,” Murt said. “Please know that I will share my insights with my colleagues when crafting legislation that impacts education in Pennsylvania.”

Murt’s dissertation at Temple was on the impact of Title IX on college wrestling programs in Pennsylvania.

“My background as a legislator proved invaluable in my investigation into how the federal law regulating equality in education, known as Title IX, impacts coaching college wrestling programs,” Murt said.

Title IX states that “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Murt graduated from Archbishop Wood High School. He earned a B.S. in Economics from Penn State University, and an M.A. in Education from La Salle University.

Murt is also a certified Business, Computer, and Information Technology teacher in the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has taught high school, and still teaches part time at Penn State Abington in the Business Division.
