Murt Announces $225,572 for Pennypack Elementary School Bridge Replacement

HARRISBURG – Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) today announced a grant award of $225,572 for the Borough of Hatboro to replace a pedestrian bridge at Pennypack Elementary School.

The grant will support the replacement of the existing 1950s pedestrian bridge spanning the Pennypack Creek and connecting Horsham Road to the Pennypack Elementary School and South Chester Avenue in Hatboro.

“This funding will go a long way in helping to replace the aging bridge and provide greater accessibility for all those who use it,” said Murt. “This was a grant award I personally supported and am happy to see the funding come through in such a timely manner. I look forward to seeing the finished project.”

The project includes demolition and removal of the existing bridge and abutments and replacement with a new pre-engineered pedestrian bridge and new concrete abutments. The project also includes replacing the existing steps at both approaches with ramps to provide accessible routes meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act.

The money comes from a Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Commonwealth Financing Authority Multimodal Grant.
