Murt to Host Forum on Suicide Prevention
HARRISBURG—Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) will host an open forum discussion about stress, anxiety, depression and suicide prevention to help parents and students identify the behaviors that could lead to tragedy. The discussion will be appropriate for students in middle school and above.

“We must do everything we can to stem the tide of depression and suicide among our children,” Murt said. “This forum will give you the tools to recognize the telltale signs and find a path to help.”

The forum will be held May 14, 7-9 p.m., at Simmons Elementary School, 411 Babylon Road in Horsham. It will be facilitated by Sheila Gillin, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, clinical director for Minding Your Mind, and will feature speakers Jordan Burnham and Kristin Nordeman.

Minding Your Mind is a not-for-profit organization whose primary objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents, teens and young adults, as well as parents, teachers and school administrators. Their goal is to break the silence and to reduce the stigma and destructive behaviors often associated with mental health issues. They strive to move away from crisis-based response to prevention through education.
