Murt Backs Legislation to Deny Benefits to Non-Compliant Sex Offenders
HARRISURG -- In a move to better protect children from predators, Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) will co-sponsor legislation to prevent any convicted sex offenders who fail to register as an offender from receiving welfare benefits.

Under the bill, which will be introduced in the coming weeks, those required to register under Megan’s law, but who are non-compliant, will be denied welfare benefits.

“I have heard from many in law enforcement who track Megan’s Law compliance checks, and have found a number of these violators continuing to receive benefits while out of court-ordered compliance,” Murt said. “This is wrong. I believe this legislation will provide motivation for compliance, and that will in turn protect our children and our community.”
