Murt Reassigned to Human Services, Veterans Affairs Committees
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery) has been reappointed to the Human Services and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees for the 2013-14 legislative session.
Murt was also named the Republican chair of the Human Services Subcommittee on Mental Health, and will sit on the Urban Affairs Committee and Gaming Oversight committees.
“On the Human Services Committee, I will speak for those who cannot help themselves,” Murt said. Last year, Murt successfully fought to add funds to the state budget to aid those with developmental disabilities.
“We have thousands of people with developmental disabilities who are on waiting lists for services,” Murt said. “Most are in emergency or critical need status, and many are cared for by elderly parents. We have a moral responsibility to take care of these individuals.”
As an Army Reserve staff sergeant with the 656th Area Support Group, Murt remains committed to helping veterans make the transition to civilian life. “My responsibilities on the Veterans Affair Committee will include making sure our veterans receive all the services they are due, especially veterans injured during their service.” The committee also oversees the state’s emergency preparedness systems.
The Human Services Committee investigates all welfare-related issues.
