10/9/2012
HARRISBURG -- Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) will host a walk to raise awareness of intellectual disabilities on Saturday, Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Registration is at 10 a.m.

The event will take place at Hatboro Baptist Church, 32 N. York Road.

There is no rain date scheduled. If the weather is inclement, participants should call 215-674-3755 between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. the morning of the walk for cancellation information.

The goal of the walk is to support and raise community awareness of individuals with disabilities.

The walk will take place through downtown Hatboro. The Hatboro Fire Police will be onsite to safely cross participants at all intersections. The route of the walk is approximately 0.6 miles, beginning at the church, proceeding south on York Road to Byberry Road, crossing York Road, and returning to Hatboro Baptist Church. Participants will meet back at the front lawn of the church for closing remarks and light refreshments.

Murt has sponsored a number of bills to help those with intellectual disabilities, including legislation to restore funding to human services programs. He will soon introduce legislation to eliminate the inheritance tax when the property is left to children with intellectual disabilities.

“It is critical that those with special needs have the proper support and access to programs to enrich their quality of life,” Murt said. “So please join us.”

For additional information about the walk, please contact Murt’s district office at 215-674-3755.
