Statement from Rep. Tom Murt on Final Budget Passage

Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery) issued the following statement in response to passage of the 2011-12 state budget:

“I am pleased about the increase in funding for the care of adults with intellectual disabilities,” Murt said.  “This line item has been underfunded for many years, and as chair of the Intellectual Disability Caucus, I worked hard for an increase this year, despite the economic climate.

“I am also pleased to see an increase in funding for our veterans homes. As a trustee of the Veterans Home in Northeast Philadelphia, the care of our veterans is a priority for me.  That’s why I was also pleased the budget increased the Paralyzed Veteran Pension line item.

“But I was disappointed to see no increase in funding for waiting list initiatives. This funds programs for special education students who leave public school at 21. Many of these students are extremely well-trained and possess outstanding job skills and are ready for employment and further training. Two students from Lower Moreland High School and William Tennent High School work in my district office.  I’m also disappointed in the cuts to funding for higher education and basic education.”
