Murt Appointed to Labor Committee, Reassigned to Education, Veterans Affairs

Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery) has been appointed to the House Labor and Industry Committee for the 2011-12 legislative session.

He was also appointed to the Education and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees, on which he served in the last term, and the Human Services Committee.

The Labor Committee appointment came after Murt’s investigation into the state’s child labor laws, in particular how they pertained to child actors in so-called reality TV.  “I am very pleased and honored by this assignment,” Murt said.  “Be assured that I will reintroduce my legislation to make sure the kids who work in television and film in Pennsylvania are protected physically, emotionally and financially. I trust the committee will act quickly on my legislation and move it to the whole House for consideration.”

Murt’s experience as a teacher will be a major asset to the Education and Human Services committees.  Murt has a long commitment to aiding students with special needs and making sure the funds dedicated to them are used efficiently.

As an Army Reserve staff sergeant with the 656th Area Support Group, Murt remains committed to helping veterans make the transition to civilian life.  “My responsibilities on the Veterans Affair Committee will include making sure our veterans receive all the services they are due, especially veterans injured during their service.” The committee also oversees the state’s emergency preparedness systems.

The Human Services Committee investigates all welfare-related issues.
