Murt Announces Grants for Road Improvements
11/12/2019
HARRISBURG- Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority has approved a grant to make pedestrian improvements to sections of York Road in Hatboro, and a second grant to improve traffic flow on Davisville Road near the former Willow Grove Day Camp.

“I want to thank the authority for recognizing the importance of these improvements, which will result in significant enhancements for our community,” Murt said.

A grant for $274,056 will be used to reduce illegally parked cars that block pedestrian views of oncoming traffic and to increase overall pedestrian safety on York Road. Hatboro Borough plans to make improvements at the intersections of Williams Lane and York Road, and at Summit Avenue and York Road. They will include marked crosswalks, curb bump-outs, warning signage and the installation of stormwater management features.

The project will result in safe connections between the sidewalks on the western and eastern side of York Road.

The authority also approved a grant for $352,312 to improve roads near the Willow Grove Day Camp where the Greater Philadelphia YMCA is building a 96,500-square-foot facility.

Because of the expected increase in traffic for the new facility, the YMCA is planning to upgrade the intersections of Davisville Road at Byberry and Terwood roads.

The plan is to widen the narrow lanes on Davisville, increase the shoulder area for bicyclist/motorist safety, and install turning lanes at the intersections with new traffic signals.

The goal is to mitigate the additional traffic on Davisville Road, pursue the opportunity to sync-up traffic signals at the proposed intersections, decrease speed and traffic stacking, improve the turning radius and sightlines at intersections, install new signals, and provide storm water management from the roadway to protect the Pennypack Creek Watershed.
