We had a very special day in the Capitol commemorating the 10th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Here is my tribute to the people who gave so valiantly, people we must help readjust to civilian life.

As part of his commitment to bring greater attention and resources to those affected by traumatic or acquired brain injuries, Rep. Murt joined the Pennsylvania Brain Injury Coalition for a press conference to urge support for legislation to create a Brain Injury Advisory Board, among other legislative goals. Rep. Tom Murt visited the Willow Grove Golfsmith store on December 11 to meet with employee Nick Cupo, left, and store manager Richard Clegg, as well as a representative from Community Integrated Services. Community Integrated Services, with funding by the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, works with individuals with special needs to provide employment training, employment placement, and employment support services. Golfsmith has been working successfully with Community Integrated Services and hired Nick Cupo in August of 2011. Store manager Richard Clegg said that Nick is an exemplary and valued employee and that this has been a “win-win” situation for all involved. Rep. Murt visited Luther Woods Assisted Living Facility and met with Mrs. Yvette Pattison and others residents. Rep. Murt marches in the 52nd Hatboro Holiday Parade Nov. 18. Rep. Murt joined Hatboro Troop 3 for their Veteran’s Night during which they honored those in the community who served in the country’s military. With Murt in the photo is Lieutenant Louis H. Balot III, once a young scout in the Hatboro Troop 3 who served in the Navy for 30 years. He retired on Saturday November 10, and drove from Pittsburgh to Hatboro for the ceremony. Rep. Murt visited with the people at the Luther Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It is comforting to see the care given to so many who need our help. They do a fine job. Rep. The proceeds from the run are used by the Foundation to extend grants to faculty and staff undertaking innovative educational programs in the school district. Rep. Thomas Murt presents Emily Graupner of Willow Grove a House Citation for 18 years of dedicated service to the Upper Moreland School District Board of Directors. Graupner was appointed to the board in June 1988. She served through December 1993 and was reelected to the school board in December 1997. Throughout her service, she has demonstrated remarkable knowledge, ability and integrity in carrying out her many responsibilities. Rep. Thomas Murt addresses a rally in the Capitol in support of his legislation to tax natural gas drillers to help fund environmental programs, hazardous site cleanups, local municipalities, affordable housing, conservation districts, education, job training, transportation infrastructure and human services. Thomas Murt, right, on Saturday joined Lin Magaha, President of Hatboro’s Millbrook Society, to dedicate the historic marker at 237 Jacksonville Road in Hatboro to recognize the Roberts and Mander Stove Company. Murt helped Millbrook, the Hatboro Historical Preservation organization, secure a grant to place the marker. The location is on the National Register of Historic Places. Rep. A freshman at Upper Dublin High School, Emily was chosen for her commitment to her community. She earned this award by raising funds to support a peanut allergy study through the Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America. Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery) presented a House Citation to Harriet Ehrsam of Hatboro. Harriet is a librarian at the Union Library of Hatboro. The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce named Harriet its 2011 Person of the Year for her work spearheading reading programs for children, providing computer training for seniors, and for many other library support programs. Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery) presented a House Citation to Al Chagan. Chagan is the Treasurer and CFO of Impact Thrift, Inc., a nonprofit whose primary mission is to financially support local charities through the net proceeds generated by its thrift stores. The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce honored Impact Thrift, Inc. and Al Chagan with its 2011 President’s Award. Murt, Stephens honor Airman’s Medal recipient Rep. Thomas Murt, right, joined Rep. Murt and Stephens presented Maund with a state citation for his bravery. State Rep. Tom Murt was pleased to be a guest speaker at the Upper Moreland Middle School for Acceptance Day where he discussed the dangers of bullying and school violence. Murt has compiled the personal stories of local veterans in a book called "In Their Words: Local Veterans Tell Their Stories." Ed Rendell's guest of honor during the lighting of the Capitol Christmas tree. Becky and her mother, Wendy Boucher, were joined via satellite by First Lady Judge Marjorie O. Rendell and pediatric cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital to lead the countdown to light the tree. Rep.
